Are AutoCad LT 97 files compatible with AutoCad 2013 or 2014?

Howdy,

I'm tech support for a small gov't office, currently in upgrade mode for users.  Concerned user writes:

"Currently the AutoCad LT 97 program creates .dwg files.  Those are the ones from prior events that we wish to save and utilize.  The current program has always automatically created a .bak file which appears as a back-up to me.  These files are not needed.  The save is on the X: which is backed up already.
Currently .dwg files are sent to the printer to create a .pdf.  This is the third file created and allows for access of the maps for all staff and storage in EBMS.  This is also needed to share these maps.

We do not require the latest bells and whistles for this program.  We are not drawing maps in 3D.  We simply create sets as you see attached using background building files and icons for chairs and tables.  A similar or complimentary program to continue work with these files as starting templates for updated maps, is all that is needed.  The new program will need to be able to open .dwg files from AutoCad LT 97, convert them if necessary and allow for changes to the events in the following year."

I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me whether the newer versions of the program will work with their older formats?

Thanks!
