LAYMRG doesn't let me choose target layer

Hi

Looking through the forum, I found several issues with the LAYMRG command, however nobody seems to have encountered my problem so far.

I am trying to merge layers using the LAYMRG command, but after choosing the layer to merge, the program simply confirms the chosen layer and then seems to abort / start over again. It doesn't matter whether I hit SPACE, ENTER or try to choose a layer directly, I always end up in the loop of the half-executed command. All layers are visible, I have tried blocking, unblocking, thawing, unthawing, using different layers, renaming layers.

In a new file, the command works fine. Copying everything to a new file would only be the absolutely ultimate escape, since I have many layouts/viewports.

Has anybody come across this problem or know what I've done wrong? Thanks for any help.

I'm using AutoCAD LT 2013

The dialogue reads:

Command: LAYMRG

Select object on layer to merge or [Name]:
Selected layers: A04-wall.
Command: LAYMRG

Select object on layer to merge or [Name]:
Selected layers: A04_mur.
Command: LAYMRG
